We have an opening for an experienced Mine Closure Specialist in our Denver, Colorado office.  

Summary:

The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic engineering team that works predominantly in the mining and hydropower industries. This position will provide specialist services in either water management, geochemistry or water quality for mine closures and reclamation in a collaborative multi-disciplinary setting.

The position will have the responsibilities of contributing to technical studies related to mine closure, from conceptual studies through to detailed design and implementation and provide technical input related to options assessments, evaluations, and selection.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned

  • Apply knowledge of geochemistry and water resources engineering for development and management of mine closure planning and permitting.
  • Develop numerical (or analytical) models based upon site conceptual models.
  • Develops compliance strategy(s) to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Assesses the environmental risk of activities and advises team members of environmental impact.
  • Assist with analysis of large geochemical/water datasets and critical interpretation of data pertaining to mining environments.
  • Assist with mine site water quality predictions using geochemical modeling software.
  • Undertake geochemical/environmental fieldwork and collect rock, soil and water samples.
  • Produce high-quality technical reports that effectively communicate detailed geochemical/water resources information to non-specialists.
  • Assist management with the company's marketing efforts, including maintaining existing clients and developing new clients through a team approach that is focused on networking and business development initiatives. Investigate, assess, and assist in securing work assignments.
  • Prepares technical documentation for clients use when dealing with regulatory agencies and other internal/external needs.
  • Maintains working knowledge of new technologies developed by the industry and government regulators.

Technical Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret the results of field investigations using numerical and analytical approaches. Has a working knowledge of chemical equilibrium/transport modeling platforms. Competency in a second language, both spoken and written would be considered as an advantage.

Education/Experience - Master of Science degree (M.S.) in geochemistry/water resources; and six to 10 years related experience.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills - Microsoft Office Suite as well as PHREEQC or similar modeling software.

Supervisory Responsibilities - This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment - Work will be in both an office and field environment with travel to various outdoor sites determined by project needs. Periodic travel will be required both within and outside US; however, the durations of travel are typically expected to be limited to 1-2 weeks at a time. Adherence to safety standards including those of the firm, MSHA, OSHA is mandatory.
