Amelia Briel is an Environmental Section Manager based in Knight Piésold’s Johannesburg office. She has 14 years of experience in environmental management within the mining and water infrastructure field. She holds an M.Sc. in Zoology (Aquatic Toxicology) from the Rand Afrikaans University in South Africa, is a certified Environmental Assessment Practitioner and a registered Professional Natural Scientist (Pr.Sci.Nat.).
Amelia manages the Environmental Section at Knight Piésold and oversees all projects at a strategic level. She specialises in large-scale infrastructure and mining projects. Amelia’s permitting expertise includes environmental impact assessments, environmental management plans, and stakeholder consultation. Environmental management expertise includes environmental monitoring, biodiversity action plans, operational management plans for ISO 14001, mine closure plans, and closure cost models. Her most significant project experience includes the Neckartal Dam Project, Ethemba Dam Project, various assignments for the Kinsevere Copper Mine, Mutoshi Copper Project, Sedibelo Platinum Project, Kusile Power Station, Banro Hydroelectric Power Project, the Mongbwalu Gold Project, and the Siguiri Gold Mine. Amelia has worked in various African countries, including South Africa, Namibia, Swaziland, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Ghana, and Guinea.
