Michael Plichta is the Regional Manager of Knight Piésold’s Pretoria office, which has both geotechnical and dams and hydropower business units. He is a civil engineer with a post-graduate GDE geotechnical engineering qualification from the University of Witwatersrand. He has over 19 years of experience in geotechnical investigations and civil engineering design, including new landfill infrastructure and upgrading existing landfill sites to comply with legislation requirements.
Michael has planned, conducted, and managed several geotechnical investigations, which include mining projects in Eritrea, Guinea, Sierra Leone, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the analyses of geotechnical data and compilation of geotechnical reports. His experience includes working on dolomitic sites according to the latest dolomite standards, and sinkhole rehabilitation using dynamic compaction. He has undertaken platform design for mine process plants, slope stability analyses, and part-time construction quality assurance for bridge piling and earthworks construction. Projects worked on include bridges, railway lines, roads, pipelines, substations, wastewater treatment works, reservoirs, schools, shopping centres, and National Department of Public Works properties underlain by dolomite.
