Richard (Rick) Sisson is a Senior Geotechnical Engineer based in Knight Piésold’s Denver office. He has over 30 years of experience as a geotechnical engineer, specializing in the design and planning of tailings storage and water resources facilities, slope stability analyses, and site investigation. He has worked both as a consultant and on behalf of mine operators.
Rick has managed or provided senior review during design, construction, and operations of numerous tailings facilities, primarily related to oil sands mining, but also including coal, bauxite, potash, iron ore, and silica sand. He has performed dam safety reviews both at oil sands mines and for the Athabasca Power System in Saskatchewan, Canada. He presently serves as a member of three Independent Tailings Review Boards for mines in British Columbia, and one in Sweden. In 2019, he was a member of two teams reviewing corporate risks associated with tailings management.
