Tom Kerr is a Principal Consultant based in Knight Piésold’s Vancouver office. He is a geotechnical engineer with 38 years of experience in the design, construction, operation, and closure of geotechnical, water, and environmental projects for the mining industry. His principal areas of expertise are in tailings, heap leach, and water management facilities, and he has been responsible for the planning, design, and operational assistance on many such facilities around the world.
In tailings management, his work has included sub-aerial, cycloned, thickened, paste, and filtered projects, and he is currently the engineer of record on several operating tailings facilities. In heap leaching, his work includes both gold and copper projects, and he is currently the lead independent reviewer for Freeport McMoran’s copper crushed leach stewardship program.
He specializes in identifying and producing unique, sound, and cost-effective solutions for mining clients. He is a former President of Knight Piesold’s USA practice and a Director of the Canadian practice and is a past member of the Mining Association of Canada’s Tailings Working Group. He has a master’s degree in civil (geotechnical) engineering from Imperial College and is a licensed civil engineer in Colorado, California, Alaska, British Columbia, and Ontario.
