The project site is located approximately 30 km north north-west from Lubumbashi. The Stage II operations involve the production of 84,000 tonnes per annum of LME grade copper metal in cathode from an oxide resource at an ore throughput of 2.6 Mtpa. The Kinsevere Primary Copper Project (KCP) is an extension of the mine and processing facilities to mine and process the sulphide ore. The ore throughput for the new primary processing facilities will be 1.8 Mtpa, to produce a total of 90,000 tonnes of copper annually. With the KCP, mining of sulphide ores increases the life of the mine to approximately 2030.
Knight Piésold was appointed to compile the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the KCP. The ESIA addresses a number of changes and new infrastructure associated with KCP. The study involved an extensive range of specialist investigations, including an extensive social impact assessment and community consultation.
In addition, the Kinsevere Closure Plan and associated closure cost model was updated to reflect the potential addition of KCP.
