November 6, 2015, Cape Town, South Africa – Knight Piésold’s Cape Town office hosted a technical tour to the Rehabilitation of Main Road Project on October 29, 2015. It was one of seven technical tours facilitated during the 79th IMESA Annual Conference that was held in Cape Town, South Africa on October 28-30. John Craig, Regional Manager for Knight Piésold’s Western Cape operations, opened the technical tour with an introduction on the work completed and led the visiting party to the project site. A hundred delegates of municipal engineers, consultants, and contractors across South Africa visited the road?works and inspected the 5.5-m-high, 570-m-long retaining wall.
Main Road is a scenic 4.5 km stretch of coastal road between Muizenberg and Clovelly, and is one of the three routes linking the Cape Town metropolitan area with the far south. The road, however, had deteriorated significantly as it was last resurfaced in 1994 and contained a very large number of underground services, such as water, sewerage, electricity, telecommunications, and stormwater.
Knight Piésold began working on the project in 2006 and recently completed the third and final phase of the rehabilitation.
