July 6, 2018, Vancouver, BC, Canada – Hydropower specialists from Knight Piésold’s Vancouver and Denver offices took part in the annual HydroVision International conference, hosting an exhibit booth and acting as panelists. This year’s conference happened in Charlotte, NC, USA on June 26-28 at the Charlotte Convention Center.
HydroVision International continues to be the largest gathering of hydro professionals in the world with roughly 3,000 in attendance. Over 350 speakers discussed the latest trends and findings in the field of water resources during more than 60 conference sessions, broken down into smaller topics such as new developments, pumped storage hydro and water management.
Sam Mottram and Norm Bishop showcased their expertise at this year’s conference.
Sam Mottram, managing principal of power services, was a panelist for the “Bold, Beautiful, and Powerful- Case Studies of Large Conventional and Pumped Storage Projects” session. Mottram discussed the transformational role that hydropower has played in electrifying Africa and the large projects being built on the continent.
Norm Bishop, senior executive project engineer, took part as a panelist covering regulatory and marketing factors in play for aging hydropower facilities in the “Small Hydro in the U.S.: Relicense, Surrender, or Sell?” session. Bishop also co-authored a paper titled “Manufacturing a Commercially Viable 3D Printed Modular Small Hydropower Turbine System” that was presented at the poster gallery. In addition, Bishop was on the HydroVision organizing committee and was chair for the “New Development” track.
Knight Piésold continues to strengthen its expertise in hydropower development, actively working on projects in North and South America, Asia and Africa. Next year’s conference will take place on July 23-25 in Portland, OR, USA. Knight Piésold plans on maintaining its strong presence at the conference and in helping to advance the latest innovative technologies and promoting the huge advantage of clean hydroelectric power development around the world.
