November 14, 2016, Johannesburg, South Africa – Education lies at the very core of community and social development in South Africa. The true success of this rests not only in financial support, but also in the ability to address specific circumstances of students. Bokamoso, Knight Piésold South Africa’s corporate social investment project meaning “the future,” provides a customised programme that truly makes a difference in the education sphere.
The project was relaunched on October 25, 2016 at MH Joosub Secondary based in Lenasia, previously a trade school that offered courses including mechanics and engineering science. Twenty two years ago, however, the school adopted a full academic programme and has since tried to expand the number of skills it could offer its pupils.
As part of our commitment to education, we recently partnered with the school after seeing an opportunity to help grow its facilities and develop the pupils, agreeing to invest in its mathematics and science departments.
Access to technology and telecommunications is mired in poverty, as it does not come free or cheap. This is one of the various reasons why the Bokamoso project will be re-opening the learning centre at MH Joosub Secondary and will be re-introducing computer studies to the learners. We will be handing over 24 computers to the school in early 2017 as we believe that investing in technology and innovative programmes for the benefit of education and special-needs facilities are great equalisers of our times. In addition to the computer laboratory, which will serve as a key learning centre, chemistry sets, chemicals, and maths and science study guides were given to the school.
In a country where hope can often be circumscribed through poverty and dire socio-economic circumstances, every opportunity for education is vital. As a company, we are passionate about mathematics and science education and recognise its importance in producing a prosperous, skilled work force in South Africa.
Bokamoso, engineering a better future for aspiring engineers!
