Pr EngAndries Strauss is the Manager of Knight Piésold South Africa’s Mine Residue section and is based in the Sandton office. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and is a registered Professional Engineer with 21 years of experience gained in several African countries. He was based in Knight Piésold’s Ghana office for some time.
Andries’ main area of technical expertise lies in DSO inspections and geotechnical and civil engineering for mine waste management, including tailings storage facilities, heap leach pads, and waste rock facilities. He performs Engineer of Record work in Africa and carries such responsibilities for some of the largest tailings facilities in South Africa. Project capabilities range from inception, through the feasibility and implementation phases right to closure. He has strong background and interest in design and modelling software. His focus is less on design and more on project management, surveillance/audits/Engineer of Record, DSO inspections, and business development to sustain and grow the section.
