Project Overview
Nzema Gold Mine is located near the town of Nkroful in the Western Region of Ghana. The project comprises of open cut mining operations in the Salman and Anwia areas of the Western Region. The operations had a proposed design throughput of 2.0 Mtpa over a nine-year life of mine.
Project Role
Knight Piésold was commissioned to design the tailings storage facility (TSF) and supervise the construction. Services provided included:
- Determination of soil profiles
- Selection of potential burrow materials and analysis of test results on samples for quantities and construction suitability
- Staged embankment designs
- Tailings storage capacity modeling
- Storm water and spillway analysis
- Underdrainage and groundwater drainage system designs
