Dr. Violeta Martin is a Specialist Hydrotechnical Engineer based in Knight Piésold’s Vancouver office. She is a civil engineer with a doctorate degree in hydrotechnical engineering with over 25 years of professional experience in hydrotechnical and environmental impact assessment studies for the hydroelectric and mining industries. She specializes in modelling and design in the fields of hydraulics, hydrology, wave generation and propagation, dam breach analysis, sediment transport, effluent mixing, fish habitat compensation, and design of pipeline systems. She has worked on projects in North and South America, Africa, Asia, and Europe.
Dr. Martin is an active member of the Canadian Dam Association Dam Safety Committee, and a member of a working group developing guidelines for tailings dam breach inundation studies. She is also an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC). Her previous work experience includes experimental and numerical modelling, research, and teaching of fluid mechanics, open channel flow, hydrology, and environmental hydraulics in the Department of Civil Engineering at UBC.
