Robert Greyling is the Technical Director of Water and Power at Knight Piésold Southern Africa and is based in the Pretoria office. Having 17 years of experience working exclusively in the water and power sector, he has had exposure to all components of a project’s life cycle, including feasibility studies, detailed design, contract documentation, and site supervision on small to large dam wall and hydropower arrangements, water conveyance systems, and tunneling initiatives.
Specialising in dams and hydropower engineering, his fields of expertise include flood hydrology, hydraulic design, heavy reinforced concrete design, and detailed structural dam design and analysis. He has a detailed understanding of static and dynamic finite element analysis of arch, arch/gravity, and arch-buttress dams, and has performed a number of thermal studies for major RCC structures.
His hydropower experience includes new HPP developments, due diligence assessments of existing installations, feasibility and detailed design, transient analyses, energy simulations, economic evaluations, and construction supervision of HEPP schemes in Southern and Central Africa.
