Ph.D., P.Eng., P.E.Dr. Salina Yong is a Specialist Geomechanical Engineer based in Knight Piésold’s Vancouver office. She has graduate degrees in geotechnical engineering (University of Alberta, slope failure in the Pierre Shale) and engineering geology (ETH Zurich, induced damage around tunnels in the Opalinus Clay).
She specializes in stability assessments of slopes and underground excavations for the civil and mining industries, damage characterization, and in-situ stress determination. Her expertise includes 2D and 3D numerical analyses, developing engineering models from field and laboratory data, instrumentation, and monitoring. Her consulting experience also includes geotechnical failure analysis and rock mechanics research for underground mining and nuclear waste storage.
