The Back River Gold Project consists of numerous gold deposits located in a remote region of southwestern Nunavut, Canada. The region is characterized by deep, continuous permafrost. Sabina Gold & Silver Corporation is proposing to mine the deposits using a combination of open pit and underground methods.
Knight Piésold was retained to provide geomechanical, geotechnical, and hydrogeological services to support pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for open pit and underground mining methods, including post pillar cut and fill, open stoping, and drift and fill. Knight Piésold also completed pre-feasibility and feasibility designs for the waste and water management facilities that included pit disposal, and developed a closure and reclamation plan and cost estimate.
