January 19, 2026, Mexico City, Mexico – Knight Piésold Mexico announces the appointment of Jorge Velázquez as Operations Manager, effective January 1, 2026. Velázquez succeeds Gilberto Domínguez, who will serve as Business Development Leader, continuing to leverage his extensive experience to support the company’s ongoing growth and strategic initiatives.
Velázquez brings 14 years of civil engineering experience with a strong focus on water management across academia, private consulting, and the Mexican government. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the National Autonomous University of Mexico and a master’s degree in hydrology and water resources engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. His technical expertise spans surface water and tailings management, water balance development, climate and hydrologic analysis, hydraulic design, and project management.
Since joining Knight Piésold Mexico in 2022, Velázquez has demonstrated strong leadership capabilities, most recently serving as Deputy Operations Manager, in addition to holding roles as project manager and engineering team leader. He has played a significant role in team development and office management, notably establishing the Water Group and consolidating multidisciplinary engineering teams. He has worked closely with Knight Piésold teams across the United States, Chile, Argentina, Canada, and Ghana, contributing to international collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Domínguez, who also serves as Vice President of Knight Piésold USA, was instrumental in establishing Knight Piésold Mexico in partnership with Knight Piésold Chile in 2020. Under his leadership, the team has grown from its initial formation to 40 professionals providing engineering and construction support services to the mining industry.
For more than 30 years, Domínguez has worked across Knight Piésold’s operations in the United States, Mexico, and Peru. With expertise in design optimization, geotechnical and hydraulic engineering, environmental control, permitting processes, and construction support, he has been a trusted advisor to clients on waste and water management projects and the development of mining infrastructure facilities.
“A structured transition period was carried out in the second half of 2025, during which I worked directly with Gilberto to ensure operational continuity, knowledge transfer, and a smooth handover of responsibilities,” said Velázquez. “Gilberto’s vision and leadership established a strong foundation and lasting legacy for the company, and in his continued role, he will focus on business development, supporting the ongoing growth and success of our operations.”
As Knight Piésold Mexico enters its sixth year of operations, this leadership transition positions the company to advance its vision of becoming a leading consultancy for mining, renewable energy, infrastructure, and construction in Mexico. With Velázquez's proven leadership and technical capabilities, supported by Domínguez's strategic guidance, and a continued focus on innovation, sustainability, and best practices aligned with international standards, the company is well-positioned for its next phase of growth in the region.
