June 19, 2024, Johannesburg, South Africa – Knight Piésold Southern Africa is proud to announce that Camille Kraak, Principal Hydrogeologist at Knight Piésold South Africa, has been recently honoured as a Fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA). This prestigious membership category, which was instituted by the GSSA Council, recognizes senior members whose experience, achievements, and management skills have significantly contributed to scientific and professional excellence in the earth sciences profession in South Africa.
Kraak has over 14 years of extensive experience in geology and hydrogeology-related projects across Africa and even as far afield as Iran. Her expertise lies in 3D hydrostratigraphic modelling using Leapfrog Works, groundwater numerical modelling using FEFLOW, and data processing and management. Kraak obtained her master’s degree in geology from the University of Pretoria and is a registered professional scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions.
Since joining Knight Piésold in 2021, Kraak has played a pivotal role in the growth and development of the hydrogeology team. Her work focuses on geological and numerical modelling, geospatial data analysis and management, and technical reporting, which are critical for due diligence reporting, environmental impact assessments, and water use license applications. Additionally, she has a keen interest in structural and geotechnical controls on groundwater movement and is dedicated to training and mentoring emerging professionals in the field.
Reflecting on her recent achievement, Kraak said, "I am truly honoured to have been elected as a Fellow of the GSSA.” She added, “I have been associated with the Society since my university days and have been an active member on the meetings committee for several years. I am proud of the work that the GSSA does to promote continuing education and advancements in the geological field."
