January 20, 2025, Perth, WA, Australia – Knight Piésold Australia announces the opening of its new Melbourne office to serve mining and resource clients across Victoria and southeastern Australia. This strategic expansion, complementing the company’s established Perth and Brisbane offices, strengthens its position as a leader in Australia's consulting engineering sector.
Mark Dillon joins as Regional Manager of the Melbourne office, bringing more than 30 years of mining industry experience in the management, design, and development of mine waste strategies on a global scale. His distinguished career includes senior leadership roles as Senior Principal, COO, and Board Member at ATC Williams, and CEO and Executive Director of ATC Mongolia. Dillon’s portfolio includes designing some of the world’s largest tailings dams in Peru, Mongolia, and Australia, and serving as Engineer of Record for tailings dams across multiple countries.
“Mark's exceptional technical expertise and proven leadership capabilities make him an outstanding addition to our team," said David Morgan, Managing Director of Knight Piésold Australia. "His wealth of experience in mine waste management and demonstrated success in delivering complex projects will be invaluable as we continue to support our clients."
The company's presence in Australia dates back to 1972, when its predecessor WLPU established operations in Sydney, focusing on tailings management and cooling towers. A strategic shift to Perth in 1992 capitalised on Western Australia's growing mining industry, with Perth becoming the operational headquarters in 2000. The Brisbane office, opened in 2008, further expanded the company's presence in Queensland and eastern Australia.
For more than 50 years, the company has been developing innovative concepts in mine waste management and environmental protection, specifically in tailings management systems, heap leach facilities, soil and synthetic liners, water management systems, and acid-generating materials.
"Our Melbourne expansion marks another significant step in the company's growth strategy,” added Morgan. “Together with our multidisciplinary team of more than 120 professionals, we are well-positioned to deliver specialised services to our clients across Australia and the broader Asia-Pacific and African regions.”
