May 15, 2024, Johannesburg, South Africa – Edwin Lillie, Dams and Hydro Section Manager at Knight Piésold South Africa, has been named a Fellow of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE).

Lillie’s esteemed career spans 34 years in water engineering, working as a dam engineer and water resource specialist for major projects, such as the Lesotho Highlands Water Project in Lesotho, Polihali Transfer Tunnel between Lesotho and South Africa, Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme in South Africa, Thukela Water Project in South Africa, and Neckartal Dam Project in Namibia.

Becoming a SAICE Fellow is a significant accomplishment. It is an honour bestowed by the SAICE Executive Board to persons of distinction who have achieved sufficient status in the civil engineering profession.

“This impressive distinction is reserved for individuals like Edwin who have demonstrated excellence in their field and earned recognition from their peers,” said Dr. Vishal Haripersad, Managing Director of Knight Piésold Southern Africa. “His dedication to sustainability, innovation, and community well-being, showcased through his leadership on major water projects, is exemplary and have undoubtedly contributed to his well-deserved recognition.”

His contributions to knowledge-sharing and collaboration, highlighted by presentations and papers for national and international conferences like SANCOLD and ICOLD, further solidify his status as a leader in the field. He is also registered as an Approved Professional Person for dam safety inspections in terms of the South African dam safety regulations.

Lillie began his career at Knight Piésold as a graduate engineer at the company’s predecessor Watermeyer, Legge, Piésold and Uhlmann in 1990, and then progressed to senior engineer roles at Knight Piésold until 2000. He served as a senior consultant for the next 23 years before taking on his current role managing the dams and hydro division.
