November 22, 2018, London, UK – Richard Elmer, Regional Manager and Director of Knight Piésold UK, was invited by the organisers of the 8th International Conference on Mineral Resources in the Republic of Serbia to join a panel for the Environmental Protection Challenge: Managing Mine Waste session. The conference, held in Belgrade on November 13-14, connected mining sector investors and experts with all relevant governmental, financial and social stakeholders, focusing on the significant contributions of mineral resources to the development of the Serbian economy.
Each panellist made a short presentation, which was followed by open discussion on how best to minimise the environmental impact of mine waste, particularly tailings. Elmer’s presentation focused on the use of filtered stacked tailings for small-scale, narrow vein mines in sensitive environments as an alternative to building conventional slurry tailings dams.
Lucy Fisher, Business Manager of Knight Piésold UK, has been a regular attendee of the conference over the past few years as part of the UK Department of International Trade’s mission to the region and is currently working on a number of mine waste projects in the area.
