March 16, 2021, Lima, Peru – Knight Piésold Peru has appointed Rubén Vargas to the position of Engineering Manager in early 2021, after Guillermo Barreda transitioned to his new role as general manager.
Mr. Vargas started working at Knight Piésold in 1999 and progressed to senior design engineer and project manager roles over his career at the company. He has been involved in all stages of engineering project development, including scoping studies, alternative assessments, feasibility studies, site investigations, detailed civil and geotechnical design, and quality control/assurance for various mining projects. Mr. Vargas holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Universidad Ricardo Palma in Peru and a master’s degree in soil and rock mechanics from the École des Ponts ParisTech in France.
“Rubén’s career has centered on delivering complex mining projects throughout Peru and South America, including being the Engineer of Record for the San Rafael and Mina Justa tailings storage facilities,” said Mario Villavisencio, Director. “He has brought forward industry best practice and global initiatives, such as ICMM and the Mining Association of Canada, to drive sustainable, long-term project success.
